Sea made from a million CDs

Artist Bruce Munro is planning his next masterpiece; a sea made from a million CDs, dubbed the CD Sea. The material will come from people who will send him their discarded disks.

In case you’ve forgotten, compact disks used to be the common way to store and transfer audio, video and data before USBs and online data transfer became more viable. We all have a whole bunch of them lying around, though have no idea what to do with them.

Personally, I would have preferred to make a solar oven out of these or if I had a million of them available, use the CDs to focus the sun’s rays onto a boiler and create a massive power plant. When the CDs wear out, just replace them with new ones coming in.

Philosophy timeline

Isn’t it so darn depressing to see the progress we’ve made in the last couple thousand years since Aristotle asked the question?

We’ve had everyone from Descartes to Nietzsche to C.S. Lewis and Bertrand Russell, but it all eventually comes down to Lil John. via.

Batman Evolution

No that’s not the title of the next Batman movie. It’s what this timeline portrays. A series of photos showing how Batman has evolved from the days of the TV series to today’s cool look.

Good thing the caped crusader isn’t stuck with the same protection-less spandex. The villains are less cheesier as well, though there was still something cool about the original series. via.

Eco friendly business card

This is such a great idea. These business cards are both friendlier to the environment and really cost effective. Wish I had known this before splurging on my expensive cards.

It is basically one of those self-inking stamps, carved into a business card that you can mark on anything. A piece of cardboard, waste paper or even a Pringles wrapper. link.

How to sleep standing up

It must be a unique and relaxing experience to sleep standing up without having to support your body weight. This upright sleeping bag thingy can help you do just that without requiring you to become an astronaut and get blasted into space.

The bag is actually an art installation by Ernesto Neto, but we don’t see how it can’t have practical uses. link.

Funny tourist warning

Warning to tourists. Do not laugh at the natives.

It’s interesting to find out how such things originated. A tourist must have laughed hard enough to offend a native for such a sign to go up.

Steampunk USB flash drive

Made from brass, copper and glass, these Steampunk USB drives are really something. The gears inside the little glass window light up red whenever data is being transferred.

Off course, if you’ve ever had the misfortune of getting shocked through your USB port, you’ll know the dangers of touching such a device made of copper. link.
