I first heard about Sealand many years ago through some friends. It may sound like a theme park and looks even stranger, but is actually the smallest sovereign state (micronation, to be precise) in the world with an interesting past.
The Principality of Sealand is a World War II gun platform, off the coast of England, that has been occupied by Prince Roy Bates of Sealand since 1967. Though it is not officially recognized by any other country, Sealand has its own national anthem and has even issued passports, coins and stamps. Various people have laid claim to it since the Bates family took over and some have even attempted to take it by force.
Sealand has more recently been used as a data center and was even considered by thePirateBay for its operations. It is currently up for grabs and would make an ideal place to start an online empire of otherwise illegal services. There are already talks of it becoming a base for an online casino so you better hurry if you’re looking to start your own racket.
One has to wonder if it really is that simple to lay claim to a territory these days. Given the current scenario, you’re likely to be accused of terrorism and annihilated before you can even come up with a name for your new kingdom.
If it is, I’m claiming that rock sticking out near the beach. Will probably call it something fun like Zombieland or Neverneverland.

wow. nice country
