Days shortened by Chile quake

How many of us have wished there was more time than 24 hours in a day? Well, it’s time to start panicking since the recent earthquake in Chile has actually shortened our days.

According to NASA, the 8.8 magnitude quake which resulted in the deaths of hundreds, has affected the Earth’s rotation and shortened our days by a whopping 1.26 microseconds.

Ok, so that’s just a fraction of a second in the lifespan of an average human being, but where will it end? Maybe we need to send in a team to the earth’s core and detonate a few nuclear bombs to slow it down a little. Sound familiar? (via)
