Burj Khalifa – World’s tallest building

Burj Khalifa – World’s tallest building

Jan 14, 2010

The Burj Khalifa, previously known as the Burj Dubai and now the world’s tallest building, opened its doors to the world in a lavish ceremony on the 4th of January.

Costing $1.5 billion and almost six years to construct, the building was completed amidst a worldwide recession and a massive real-estate crisis that has hit Dubai.

Besides being the tallest building/structure ever constructed, the records set by the Burj Khalifa include having the world’s highest swimming pool, the highest mosque and being the first world’s tallest structure in history to include residential space. Yeah right. I guess they didn’t count the walking dead that called Khufu’s Pyramid their home for millennia.

Base jumpers have already set their own records by leaping off the towering structure and it looks unlikely anyone will be beating most of these records anytime soon.

With real estate demand abysmally low, occupancy at the Burj will probably remain near the bottom for the foreseeable future. Might want to get a piece of the action if you’re lucky enough to have extra cash lying around.
