The entrance to hell has been found. The gates are smack in the middle of Turkmenistan and are an awesome sight.
If you don’t plan on floating all the way across the world after you die, you better move there now.
Actually, the Darvaza Gas Crater is a remnant of a 1971 man-made disaster, a drilling operation gone horribly wrong.
A Soviet drilling platform crashed into a major gas reserve, releasing toxic gases (as well as demons of the underworld, but the Soviets were excellent at keeping secrets). Their solution to the problem? Light it on fire. And burning it has been ever since. Who knows when the underground fires will ever be put out.
